How to use teach.fm to secure a high-paying teaching job in China

Step by step guide to teach.fm — the easiest and most trusted platform to start your English teaching journey.

We have outlined 7 key steps to guarantee you land a high-paying English teaching career using teach.fm.

Step 1. Sign up at teach.fm

Type into your browser “teach.fm” and click on “sign up,” and proceed to “I’m a teacher.” To increase your visibility and options, please fully complete all steps — this should take no more than 3–5 minutes.

Step 2. Upload CV and One minute Self Introduction Video

After signing up you will be re-directed to your teach.fm dashboard. Think of your dashboard as your driver seat, as your cockpit, where you control your English teaching destiny.

Step 3. Apply to Open Vacancies

To find open positions, click on the tab “jobs” at the top of your teach.fm homepage. Once you have found your desired job or jobs, applying to them is a one-click action, simply click on the green tab, “Apply for job,” and ta-dah! The school has received your application and they will be in touch soon.

Step 4. Schedule and Ace the Interview

Let’ go back to your teach.fm dashboard, here you can view all of your applications and interview invites.

Under “Applications” will be a record of all positions you have applied to. Under “Interview Invites” you will be able to see which schools have invited you to interview and you will be able to choose from them.

But above all, we urge you to take the initiative to apply to as many open positions and contact employers first to schedule your interviews. This will pay dividends in your overall salary and benefits package.

Step 5. Sign your Contract!

Congratulations!

You’ve found your dream school, your dream job, and your dream destination. Sign your contract and email scan copies to your employer.

Remember, if you secure a position with teach.fm you are entitled to a $200 bonus. Tell the magic word "teach.fm blog" to your consultant.

Step 6. Visa Application Process

In short:

  • Obtain a clear criminal background check
  • Notarize your degree, TEFL/TESOL certificate and clear criminal background check at a public notary/solicitor/lawyer’s office or bank
  • Legalize your notarized documents at your local government office
  • Authenticate your legalized documents at the Chinese embassy
  • Color scan all your documents to your school for them to apply for your invitation letter
  • Once you receive your invitation letter (usually by email) you can apply for your legal work visa

Step 7. Book your flight

You have signed your contract, you have your visa on hand, you can now book your flight and pack your bags.
